In 2012 brengt Lodewijk Fluttert zijn eerste EP uit, Zomer. Een jaar later breekt hij bij het grote publiek door met Vandaag, waarin het geluid van een saxofoon wordt gecombineerd met de legendarische toespraak van Martin Luther King. Het wordt zijn eerste Top 40-hit en staat twee weken op nummer 2 in de zomer van dat jaar.Het trucje met de sample herhaalt hij in 2014 met Uitzicht, waarin samples zijn verwerkt van de astronauten uit de Apollo 8. Het nummer weet de Top 40 niet te halen.

Eind februari van 2015 is Teach Me, waarin de Amerikaanse zangeres Shirley Ceasar te horen is, zijn tweede Top 40-hit. Met Living, waarop de Britse zanger Alex Clare te horen is, komt hij in de zomer van 2016 in de Tipparade. In de vroege zomer van 2017 keert Bakermat terug in een samenwerking met Kiesza op Don't Want You Back.
In 2020 verschijnt zijn debuutalbum The Ringmaster. Met de track Walk That Way slaat hij in 2021 de handen ineen met de Amerikaanse zanger Nic Hanson.

De sample in dit nummer is afkomstig uit de legendarische toespraak die Martin Luther King hield tijdens de March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom op 28 augustus 1963. Ze is ook bekend onder de naam 'I Have a Dream'. Deze toespraak was een hoogtepunt in de Amerikaanse burgerrechtenbeweging en wordt gezien als een retorisch meesterwerk. De totale rede duurde ongeveer 17 minuten. Daarvan is een gedeelte van één minuut gebruikt voor 'Vandaag'. De tekst is als volgt: "And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
