Het lied is vernoemd naar een vrouw die haar haar eigenhandig blondeerde. Het Engelse woord voor 'blonderen' is 'to dye', wat hetzelfde klinkt als 'to die' (wat 'sterven' betekent). Eigenhandig sterven zou je het benemen van je eigen leven kunnen noemen, oftewel 'zelfmoord', en het Engelse woord daarvoor is 'suicide'. Deze uitleg zou de titel van het lied kunnen verklaren.

Feit is dat de lach van Kylie Minogue is gesampeld in dit lied. Zij was destijds de vriendin van Michael Hutchence, de zanger van de band, en voor een rol in de film The Delinquents uit 1989 heeft zij haar haar platinablond moeten verven.
