"Bad" werd uitgebracht door Epic Records in september 1987, als de tweede single van Michael studio album met de zelfde naam. Een videoclip voor "Bad", werd geregisseerd door Martin Scorsese en was de 1e kennismaking met de nog niet ontdekte Wesley Snipes. De muziek video's choreograaf verklaarde dat de plot en de video van de achtergrond sterk werd beïnvloed door de "Cool" scene uit de musical "The West Side Story".
"Weird Al" Yankovic maakte een persiflage van het nummer "Bad" onder de weinig vleiende titel "Fat".
Trivia
Op 18 september 2012 werd het album "Bad 25" uitgebracht. Het album, een twee-disc set, bevat het originele album, evenals onuitgegeven materiaal opgenomen tijdens de Bad sessies. Het materiaal omvat vroege demo-versies van songs van het album, demo's van nummers die niet op de uiteindelijke album terecht kwamen en remixes. Een DVD van Jackson's 16 juli 1988 optreden in het Londense Wembley Stadium werd ook uitgebracht.
