Al op 12-jarige leeftijd schrijft Taio Cruz nummers en werkt hij zich omhoog tot succesvol schrijver. Zijn track Your Game, dat hij in 2004 maakt, wint een Brit Award. Al snel start hij zijn eigen bedrijf, Rokstarr Music, waar in 2006 zijn eerste single I Just Wanna Know verschijnt. Met Come On Girl, waarop ook Luciana te horen is, weet hij voor het eerst een top 5-hit te scoren in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.

In 2009 komen we Cruz tegen op Take Me Back van Tinchy Stryder, waarmee hij de top 3 in het Verenigd Koninkrijk weet te bereiken. Later dat jaar scoort hij met Break Your Heart (featuring Ludacris) zijn eerste nummer 1-hit. Die track waait ook over naar de Top 40 waar het in het voorjaar van 2010 twee weken op nummer 8 staat. Dynamite wordt later dat jaar zijn eerste top 3-hit.

Inmiddels heeft hij een aardige staat van dienst qua samenwerkingen. Zo maakte hij tracks met Travie McCoy, David Guetta, Pitbull en is hij in 2012 opnieuw terug te vinden bij de vijf grootste hits van ons land met Hangover, waarop Flo Rida te horen is.

In 2013 kondigt hij aan dat zijn vierde studioalbum, #Black, in de maak is. Maar dat album heeft twee jaar later het levenslicht nog niet gezien.

In 2015 maakt hij een nieuwe versie van Booty Bounce, samen met Tujamo die de track eerder dat jaar uitbracht.
